summary

Original accommodation, with cutting edge facilities adapted to the most specific needs of guests.

The image of these renovated hotels is one of the clearest values implemented. Sol Hotels, in fact, is the current example within the tourism industry with mature and traditional family hotels restructured in iconic places where everyone in the world wants to visit and be a part of.

Soft lines, warm colours and modern & original stamps. Spaces to inspire with cutting edge facilities adapted to guests’ most specific requirements. A group of professionals are there to make sure that all those who visit these hotels (whether or not they book a stay) leave with the best memories. All this is combined in such a way that all the critics on the internet have many positive things to say: “friendly and incredible”, “a very recommendable adults only hotel”, “from Majorca to heaven”, “stunning views of Ibiza”, “disconnect, relax and recharge your batteries”, the “perfect hotel”.

The truth is that the design of this line of hotels, that, before, was exclusively designed for families, fulfills the dreams of any visitor. All you have to do is dream and search on the website what kind of holiday is nearest to what you imagine.

Pure adventure

The best example of adventure hotels is the new Sol Katmandu Park, a hotel that is also a theme park designed especially for the little ones and parents that can enjoy multiple services to help treat themselves to a relaxing stay on the seafront. It is one of the most famous hotels in Majorca, recently renovated with every year bringing new proposals of leisure, shows and entertainment in general. It is located only a few metres away from the large Magaluf beach, in a tranquil zone, far from the hustle and bustle of the nightlife.

Style and passion

And complete freedom. This is the definition given at Sol Beach House, designed for travellers seeking style, comfort and being surrounded by the latest in holiday trends. As for destinations, you can choose between trendy places like Bali, Minorca, Ibiza, Majorca and Vietnam. Exclusive, sophisticated but, at the same time, relaxed and natural. These hotels are perfect for surprising your partner or treating yourself to an escape with friends that you will never forget.

Feel the vibrations…

— with the best sounds and parties of the summer. Sol House are hotels within the Sol Hotels chain for young, rebellious and creative adults. Here, music is played throughout the entire holiday, with the best of worldwide recognised music, with international DJ guests and themed celebrations in the pool. The originality and vitality found in all these hotels is a promise of non-stop fun. Not appropriate for those with heart problems or young people with old souls: you need to be in shape to be able to do everything and not hold back. For, if you try it, you will for sure end up doing it again.

Sol Hotels owns its own website from which it has established an identity in its mark and shows every single one of the details that makes it different from other establishments around the world: Sol House, Sol Beach House, Sol Katmandu Park and Sol Hotels. Bookings can be made on the official website of Melià Hotels & Resorts, home of Sol Hotels, and this will allow you to take advantage of better, more reasonable prices, even with more exclusive hotels. Whether or not you like or dislike the hotel, what we can guarantee is that the quality to price ratio can not be beaten by any third parties.

The coolest Madrid

Madrid is a city that perfectly combines history, tradition and modernity. A capital that, moreover, is susceptible to fashions and in which trends come and go from week to week. If you are the last one to have or do something in Madrid then it is already out of fashion because at the other end of the city they are already inventing something new. Yes, frantic and unstoppable, Madrid today is a city full of ideas and inspiration where the best artists, actors, designers and everyone who is top of their field meet. In this mixing pot of culture, seasoned by past generations, a city that reinvents itself every second and in which being cool is difficult unless you keep an eye on everything that is happening in the city.

For all this, we ask for forgiveness beforehand because this article will stop being cool from the moment we publish it. But what are we going to do – this is life, this is the way trends in Madrid work. The only thing we can guarantee you is that at the time of this being written, it was the coolest thing to read.

We have to speak about the SOMOS restaurant: a place where the cuisine is excellent. Where you are going to eat well … however much you end up spending (50 euros minimum cover). But here you will rub shoulders with the most famous of Madrid’s society, VIPs, top executives but above all, you will be able to enjoy the views of Plaza de España.

And since we are on the topic of the views, seeing it is already spring, we can not fail to mention the terraces overlooking the Gran Via, home to some of the most historic buildings along the famous street in Madrid . Most are hotel terraces from which you can enjoy the skyline of the city and have a drink or even dinner. Like the IBEROSTAR Las Letras or the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

The themed hotels are another topic: with rooms inspired by the most famous movies in the history of the big screen. Others are keen to become centres of the most up to date technology from which to rest and plan the the day’s activities. The Petit Palace Santa Barbara offers an iPad to its guests and computers with Wi-Fi in the rooms. Others aim to become a trendy bar, like Vincci The Mint, which is gradually getting more and more fans.

And, let’s not deny it, many hotels in Madrid have discovered the world of interior design and completely remodeled and created spaces that will leave you with an open mouth and the feeling of being in an authentic modern art museum . Like the Petit Palace Art Gallery, which adds to its functional rooms some common spaces filled with works of contemporary art unlike any generic instagram.

The Chamberí neighborhood is now cooler than ever. There, the small boutique shops with unique products are changing the traditional appearance of the neighborhood without losing the charm of the original taverns. One of the coolest shops of the moment in the area is a small store of bulk ecological products. Yes, vegan, bio and eco are the biggest fads in Madrid today.

In Malasaña many of the old bars have been changed into tea stores and cafes, cupcakes bakeries and vegan restaurants. There are still the usual croquettes, if you look for them you will find them, but it is difficult with all the brunch bars offering brunch every day (although it is originally a Sunday breakfast-lunch tradition). Luckily, the bookstores have also become cool and it is great to see how in Madrid they are always full of people browsing and buying books, new or second hand.

Luckily of course, the vermouth is still cool in la Latina, although the vintage stores that have been appearing everywhere in Malasaña are taking clientele away (many with authentic jewels, they really deserve a visit). Thankfully the delicious tapas in Madrid is still very cool, whether in the super cool Mercado de San Miguel or in the usual taverns.

In Chamberí do not miss the Taberna La Mina. In Malasaña you have to enjoy a Sunday brunch, it’s a must. On Saturday at noon, vermouth is essential in La Latina, however the area of Lavapiés towards the ambassadors is definitely catching up. Visit the Café Comercial, a historic cafe in Madrid that has been completely renovated. Also if you want something that is very cool and very Madrid: a night at the Toni 2 Piano Bar. You will never forget it!

Mallorca: 5 places to visit over and over again

Mallorca is one of those destinations to which, sooner or later, everyone ends up going to at some point. It is also one of the places people return to most. Why? Because this island in addition to the traditional sun, beach and fun for foreigners – a label that it has had for years – is a unique Mediterranean refuge of unsurpassed nature, breathtaking mountains, wonderful coves and beaches and culture that you will fall in love with instantly.

Yes, Mallorca is much more than sun and low cost beaches. Mallorca is one of the paradises on this planet, so for those who are looking for a relaxing or active holiday, as a couple or family, the island offers everything. A series of special places that one will remember forever and want to return to, time and time again.

Sa Foradada

Viewpoint of viewpoints. A unique place from which to contemplate and enjoy the views from where the Mediterranean unites Mallorca with Barcelona and from which to enjoy one of the best sunsets of Mallorca. This amazing unspoilt place of nature lies at the bottom of a cliff with terraced farms and descends along a winding natural trail. Beneath the whole is what is known as Sa Foradada (the pierced, in Mallorcan): a large rock that emerges from the sea and whose erosion by the wind has made a huge gap that allows to see perfectly the landscape from one side to the other. Stretching out into the sea it can only accessed by a sandbar. At the start of the trail there is a bar that on Sunday afternoons holds music sessions and sunset cocktails.

Es Trenc

The most beautiful beach in Mallorca according to many of its visitors. They say that it reminds them of the Caribbean … it is true, although you could say that it is even more beautiful. Competitions aside, Es Trenc is known as the last paradise on the island because it is surrounded by spectacular dunes with protected, native vegetation, and it is home to one of the most important salt mine in Mallorca, from which the salt is extracted from. This salt can be found in many of the local produce stores and makes a great souvenir. One can visit the salt mines when heading towards the beach. We recommend you take your camera to savour this beautiful landscape.

Formentor

The northernmost end of the Serra de Tramuntana, The Cabo Formentor and all the natural surroundings and hidden coves are some of the most beautiful in Mallorca. A must if you are a nature lover and are looking for quiet beaches and rocky coves. Here it is a little difficult to lie down and sunbathe but the waters are more crystalline than anywhere else on the planet. This haven of peace and tranquility was always one of the places where the greats of Spanish literature used to rest, think and write. Even today, a series conventions are held at Hotel Formentor featuring important personalities from the world of writing.

Cabrera

Though not actually part of Mallorca, this small island is located off the coast and is an inseparable part of the history of Mallorca and is one of the most incredible National Parks in Spain. You can get there by boats that leave regularly in the summer from the dock of the Colonia de Sant Jordi and allow you to spend all day on the island, discovering its vegetation, its fauna and, above all, the wealth of its seabed. To protect these seabeds, anchoring with private boats is limited, you must always ask for permits to access and to dive and it is mandatory not to generate unnecessary waste during the stay on the island. Take the basics for your trip; a swimsuit and a picnic.

Palma

Yes, the capital has its charm. It is not your usual city: its character is cosy, although Mallorquins are often suspicious of the visitor at first. It has many museums and cultural centres, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Es Baluard, which offers one of the best viewpoints on the bay of Palma from the city centre. The other great viewpoint are from the roofs of the Cathedral of Mallorca. This cathedral is the only one in the world built in the Gothic style that looks out to sea and that has been opened to the public for the first time in it’s history in 2016. Just below the Cathedral, the Parc de la Mar, a place for events, this park has an artificial lagoon and gardens which are combined with the remains of the historic walls of the city, by which you can stroll peacefully admiring the immensity of the bay and the port of Palma.

If these 5 places have convinced you to make the leap to Mallorca one of these days, always look for accommodation excellent location and good value for money. However maybe avoid the old town hotels: they are almost all boutique hotels, upscale and quite expensive.

Areas like Playa de Palma and Magaluf or Palmanova, despite having a poor tourist reputation, they have many accommodation gems, just 20 minutes from the centre of Palma. For example, the Melià Group hotel’s Sol Hotels line, which has a hotel that is integrated with a theme park a stone’s throw from Magaluf beach: the Sol Kathmandú Park Resort. Or the Grupotel Playa de Palma Suites & Spa, which has a complete gym and wellness centre and is just a few metres from the beach and less than 5 minutes from the airport.

Tell me how you travel and I’ll tell you what hotel suits you

For every taste and for travel, destinations, travelers and hotels. The variety of the tourist sector today is nothing more than the reflection of the demand that has been emerging in recent years of vertiginous changes. Linked to the frenzy that marks the Do It Yourself imposed by the Internet, the disappearance of intermediaries according to others, the rise of direct sales, Early Booking, the birth of new hotel concepts based on the new demands of the traveler… Everything changes and we, too.

The proposal we launch from here today is very simple: just make a little reflection about what type of traveler you are and what kind of trip you would like to make in 2017. Throughout life, even if we have a character and personality very marked, the different stages through which we pass mark us and force us to adapt to new needs that we had never before thought.

For example: first-time parents who see their first vacation with a child approaching; the newly divorced or separated, who have to look for life traveling alone or aiming for excursions for singles; those who end up having to take care of their parents because they are older; and those who start the madness phase of university, their first job and their first salary as they go out with their friends to live the adventure. Each and every one of them will experience 2017 with a very different holiday plan than they were accustomed to before and to look for options from ignorance is not always easy. Not always right.

To make your life a little easier, we have selected a number of establishments in Spain designed for different types of holiday plans, in order to choose the one that best suits your new reality. Alone, in pairs, with the whole family or with friends. The important thing is that your vacations are, really, HOLIDAYS.

Plans for solo travel

If you are an athlete you will have many different options. For example, golf hotels in Chiclana, apartments and surf camps in Cádiz for board fanatics or accommodation for surfers in Fuerteventura (the windy island where this water sport is considered a symbol of this territory) are an alternative. They are excellent both for a getaway and for the summer holidays. An interesting plan if you want to travel with friends or as a couple, and a bit more complicated if you go with children or grandparents since it is difficult to square the exits to the sea with the attention of the smallest of the house or with that of our elders.

Plans for couples

The classic hotel and spa. A pack of 3-4 days without doing practically nothing more than eating delicious food, relaxing and take care of yourself with a stroll. An excellent destination is the Canaries: here, among all the plans, are those of the spa hotels in Tenerife, with a wide variety of categories, from the cheapest to the most exclusive and luxurious hotels (such as hotels in Tenerife South, one of the most carefully selected areas for romantic getaways).

Plans for families

We arrive to the part for the traveling families. Take a deep breath and relax. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. What you have to do is opt for the helpers and prepared family hotels. Do not hesitate: you will save your vacation. You can choose a thousand destinations and a thousand options. For example, hotels for children in Tenerife are very applauded, as well as in Menorca and Mallorca. But also there are very good alternatives that you will find in the zone of Levante and the South. Malaga, Huelva… The trick is to book in advance to get the most spacious and complete rooms, connected or directly designed for families, which are the most practical and save you money and more than an inconvenient time. Having your loved ones close, but keeping your privacy as much as possible is essential.

If you are thinking of an urban getaway, do not hesitate: a hotel with spaces for families and services for children and well-differentiated adults is the key to survival.

Plans for friends

Almost any of the previous plans can be adapted to a trip with friends, but the most common is that one opts to visit a city with an important leisure offer (such as Madrid or Barcelona, where there are hotels and hostels for all tastes and pockets) or equally well, choose a mountain or beach hotel with complimentary services such as sport, excursions or spa sessions, gourmet cuisine and Adults Only parties. The most interesting destinations are Mallorca, the Canary Islands and the great capitals, among which we recommend: Gijón, Bilbao, Valencia or Seville.
